Styling your session
Just a couple of tips for styling your session
The first thing you need to think about is your location for your session, this will play a big factor into what you choose to wear, for an adventure in the woods with me those Saturday night stilettos are not going to end well!! Think about what you are going to be comfortable in if you are running around with the kids or chasing your dog who has zero interest in my attempts to take pictures of them.
Next up your going to need to consider the weather. This is England so a session in the end of April doesn't mean it won't snow, in fact this year it probably will!! Layer up if you don't want to wear coats, vests and thermals are essential.
So we've thought about comfort, location and weather now the good stuff, Colours, patterns and textures.
Coordinate don't match!
This works an absolute treat, if you've got one outfit you're sure on, pull colours from this outfit to coordinate for everyone else. Your daughters got a beautiful blue dress you absolutely love so use that for your palette. Think in terms of tones don't try to match the blue exactly, pick 2-3 colours that go well with the blue, like greys and creams.
Textures are another great way to add some depth to your outfits without adding too much fuss, knit wear looks awesome, I really like denim for this too.
Timeless, not trendy.
Avoid clothing with big logos on it, this also goes for caps, avoid any headwear that is going to block your face.
These photos will be something you will look back on for many years to come and especially if your putting them on the wall you don't want them to look dated. Rich earthy colours compliment natural elements so choosing neutral clothing brings the focus back to the people in the photos and keeps it timeless (we've all got those 80s/90s photos of us rocking the latest trends thinking we were sooooo cool).
Coming back to location, think about complimentary colours, we are in the woods, don't wear leafy green, you are going to blend in, instead reds, browns, mustard etc, adding a pop of colour will look great. Or opt for a light green or Emerald that is going to make you stand out from the trees, blue also looks great with the bluebells.
Prints and pattern - I would say avoid these or pick something bold and only one person to wear said pattern/print. They can be distracting particularly fussy prints.
